Benefits of saving paper
Imagine this. You are standing in a forest and you cut down 4 trees. You take these trees home and they will be your paper supply for the next 12 months. This is the average amount of paper that one person uses in a year.
But let's look at it from the other side, because 4 trees may not seem like a lot. If there are four people in your house, the number goes up to 18 trees a year. If 400 people live on your street, that's 1800 trees a year. And if there are 4,000 people in your town, that's 18,000 trees a year.
Therefore, paper consumption in the workplace is an important issue that needs to be addressed. The average consumption of an office worker is approximately 10 000 sheets of paper per year, which is slightly more than one tree per worker.
Saving paper:
Reduces deforestation. Much of the world's deforestation is occurring in tropical rainforests containing ecosystems that are crucial to our survival;
Saves water. A4 paper can absorb up to 20 litres of water during production;
Reduces pollution. Paper mills can emit hazardous chemicals that affect the cleanliness of our air, water and soil;
Same services, same products, but no more paper!
So saving paper is one way to become more sustainable. At Dolphin, we introduced e-invoicing back in 2015, but now we want to take the next step, so we've invested in a new mobile delivery system that allows us to completely replace paper delivery notes. From 2023, our customers will no longer receive paper delivery notes when goods and services are delivered.
Instead of signing a traditional paper delivery note, they sign for delivery on the service technician's mobile device. Once the delivery is complete, an email confirmation is automatically sent with a summary of all pertinent delivery information, including products and services delivered.
